Back at it and Hopefully a Bit More Disciplined This Time...

About 3 weeks ago I pulled a massive fake out...I wrote my first blog post since work started getting hectic in June, and may have even conned you [myself] into thinking that I would actually be back at regularly writing....and more importantly, regularly working out.  The work outs, at least, have been a bit more regular since then, but still nothing to move the buckle on my ever tightening belt.

So this time I'm announcing [to myself really] that I'm signing for another half marathon in the hopes of forcing myself to get a bit more serious about my running and my health [waistline and sanity].  Granted, this didn't work out so well with the Brooklyn Half, as work proved to have the upper hand then, too, but hey - it's worth a shot.

As of 11:22PM EST, I'm officially registered for the 2013 Naples Daily News Half Marathon.  Perhaps we can figure out a good goal time and such together later, dear reader!

I ran today, after having felt bad about only running 2 miles on Friday [One was at a 9:13 pace, though!  And I had a very small window between work and an after work work-related function, so I figured better some than none?] and none on Saturday.  Bad, tortoise.

So, when I checked into my work hotel tonight I headed straight for the gym and told myself I would make it to the 4 mile mark.  It's so funny that this time last year I was doing 18 and 20 mile runs in prep for the marathon - 4 miles was a big deal for me today - and in the recent weeks making it to 3 had been garnering self congratulations.  But, you do what you can, right?  Not only did I hit my 4 miles, but I did it in 39 minutes.  Now, you may be thinking, "Whoa!  So fast!  Trotting Tortoise?  Maybe you should rename your blog."  But don't worry, the Trotting part rang truer than ever and before a 1/2 mile was up I found myself in the gym bathroom.  I decided that even though that meant my miles weren't contiguous, I'll take what I can get right now and give myself credit for the full four at a sub 10 pace.  Cut me some slack - I'm working my way back here :)  Afterwards I even did part of my Tracy Anderson Mat DVD.  Not totally awful baby steps!

In other news, I won a pumpkin carving contest today.  Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Rastakin:

Anyone's Halloween costume include something running related?
